SiCortex Adds SGI Executive as VP of Sales
SiCortex, the first company to engineer a Linux cluster from the silicon up, today announced that it has named Fred Allman Vice President of Sales. Allman has more than 25 years’ experience in the computer industry, most recently serving as Vice President, Americas West for SGI.
SiCortex also has named Brian Day as Chief Financial Officer. Day was most recently chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Viseon, Inc., a publicly traded telecommunications equipment manufacturer. Day brings a unique combination of deal making, legal and financial skills to SiCortex.
SiCortex has recently introduced a line of high performance computers that dramatically reduce power usage while providing industry leading performance. Allman joins SiCortex as the company is ramping up delivery of its first products, the SC5832, a 5.8 teraflop high performance computer, and the SC648, a 648 gigaflop system.
“As our products take hold in the market place we have seen the need for both sales and finance leadership,” said SiCortex Chief Executive Officer Dr. John Mucci. “Both Fred and Brian offer unique sets of skills and experiences that will be invaluable as we move to the next level – we now have our leadership team in place.”
SiCortex has introduced a new concept in high performance computing by implementing a complete cluster node on a chip, including six 64-bit processors, multiple memory controllers, a high performance cluster interconnect and a PCIexpress connection to storage and internetworking. A SiCortex cluster node consumes 15 watts of power, an order of magnitude less than the 250 watts used in a conventional cluster node. The SC5832 can perform six trillion operations per second in a cabinet that is less than one-third the size of conventional clusters.
