SiCortex to Speak at Society of Exploration Geophysicists

SiCortex Chief Engineer Matt Reilly to Participate in a Panel Exploring the Technical Directions and Operational Issues of Using High-Performance Computers in the Oil & Gas Industry
November 13, 2008

Maynard, Mass. — November 14, 2008 — SiCortex, Inc., maker of the world’s most energy-efficient high-productivity computers (HPC), announced today that Matt Reilly, chief engineer, will be speaking at the upcoming Society of Exploration Geophysicists International Exposition and Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nev. Matt will be participating in a convention workshop titled “High performance computing in oil and gas: Technical directions and operations issues”. The session will focus on advancements being made in computing, how they are being implemented in the oil and gas industry, and what operational issues must be addressed in managing an HPC environment. Matt will be among the industry leaders slated to comment specifically on technology directions in the industry, and will describe some early field experience and measures that have been taken to enhance programmer productivity. While the computer industry has spent the last thirty years improving arithmetic speed, and much of the last ten years on memory rates, few machines provide communication bandwidth adequate to take advantage of available parallelism in many compute tasks. Matt will discuss the SiCortex hardware and software architecture, and explain how these systems address this imbalance.
