Limiting Access to Compute Nodes

To reconfigure the system so that all interaction between the compute cluster and the VMWare-based SSP is moderated by the RedHat-native OS, do the following:

  • Reconfigure VMWare to add NAT
  • Reconfigure Red Hat
  • Reconfigure the VMWare SSP

Note that these instructions apply to SiCortex release 2.2.b

How long does it take RedHat to recognize media?

RedHat takes about 15 seconds to recognize the inserttion of USB and DVD media.

How do I power on the system?

Pressing RESET (front left button) may be needed to produce the required boot/beep tone.
The beep comes 5 seconds after pressing reset and this assumes the rear power switch and front power (LED) are already switched on.

How do I bring up a virtual console?

You must run the VMWare player with the SC072 profile to bring up a virtual console.

Quick Start Guide Errata

Step 11 of the old Quick Start Guide said /sbin/make-passwd.
It should say usr/sbin/update-passwd

Initial SC072 shipments did not contain the software DVD. You can access the documentation from either the SiCortex web site or from VMWare on your system.
